:
Born in Brazil in 1970, Jasmin Genzel studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague in The Netherlands. After residing for many years in Rome in Italy she lives and works in the South of France sInce 2009.
In her practice she brings together different materials and techniques. Her paintings in oil, watercolour, egg tempera, drawings in ink, printmaking and small objects explore materiality of colour through repetition, transformation, storytelling, line and form. She uses paper and textile for woodcuts from rough, often found pieces of wood. Her recent work of the “bundles” and “planches” develops printmaking into objects to bridge and create a moment in the gathering of pieces. Known for her intrinsic sign the art of Jasmin Genzel focuses on the emanation of form and the interaction with imagination – the “songline” – to poetically integrate and weave images into material.
Jasmin Genzel has been recipient of awards for her printmaking and aquarelle paintings. She participated at the 6th International artist residency and retreat in Tao Hua Tan, China. Her work has been exhibited at the BA Arts Center in Alexandria in Egypt and is part of the collection of the Bnf Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Cambridge University Library and the Kurume Friendship Art Gallery Hefei in China.
